About The Tree of Knowing
The Central Biblical Archetype
What I mean to say is even though we feel distanced from our Source, we can get it back. We can return to ourselves and no darkness is too great. This is the Central Theme of the Jewish Bible and the story of the Exodus from Egypt. As the Jewish tradition says, ” A little light dispels a lot of darkness”. And as Rebbe Nachman of Breslov said “There is no despair in the world at all” which means we can find hope and life even in the Valley of Death or in the face of utter meaninglessness.
The Tree of Knowing is an attempt and an invitation to every individual to re-connect to the teachings of the Jewish Bible but in a new and modern light that is deeply relevant each of us. I called it the Tree of Knowing (and not the Tree of Knowledge) but it is about how we Know Life at a very intimate level. Try to put aside all of your preconceptions about the G-d of the Old Testament and about the Old Testament itself. The Jewish Tradition holds teachings and secrets that the world and every one of needs badly and I invite you to come explore these teachings with me in light of many areas of Modern Life. It is my hope that this project will help up find and strengthen our connections to our True Selves and to the Source of this incredible Life.

Our History
The Tree of Knowing Project is the culmination of many years of study and work by Rabbi Adam Perlman. Based on the idea of the Shulchan Aruch (set table), it is meant to be a guide to the main aspects of a healthy modern life, deeply rooted in Traditional Torah ideas and advice, while also addressing many of the central themes which we face in the modern world. It is my hope that it can help all people come closer to a meaningful life.

Our Mission
“It is a Tree of Life for those who hold onto it”. This important verse from the Book of Proverbs encourages us , that if we learn how to live and act properly, we will connect and grasp onto the Source of Life, the Tree of Life, the Source of our Being. I created the Tree of Knowing websites with this verse in mind. My sites are named after the Tree of Knowledge (Etz Daat in Hebrew), but I call it The Tree of Knowing, since knowledge sounds too intellectual, where what we are talking about is intimate life knowledge (as in Adam “knew” Eve). Inside of our knowledge, our Knowing, at our core, exists the Tree of Life. It is my hope that I can contribute a little bit to our individual and collective search for connection to each other and to our Source.
