our situation
The modern state of Israel is such a powerful symbol because it embodies two very distinct aspects: 1) It is modern state with a highly developed economy, military and hi tech sector. This comes after several hundred years of the question of “the Jewish Problem” in Europe. 2) The modern state of Israel fulfilled some of the most fundamental prophecies of the ingathering of the exiles back to the Land of Israel. So the modern state is full of religious meaning much of which is strong that many Jews prefer to simply ignore the religious meaning and to focus on their identity as modern Jews.
our challenge
The split between religion and modern man has affected the Jews deeply. Many Jews feel alienated from their religion and do not know how to integrate it into their modern lifestyles. In particular, the idea of being “Chosen” is difficult for them to understand and they also fear that religion will lead us to a state similar to the extremism seen in Iran
our resolution
The healing of the rift between ancient and modern, religious and secular, is possible and it is needed both for the Jews and for all humans. We have both a body and a soul and each part of ourselves deserves to thrive in cooperation together. The secret is in knowing how to balance the two and to do that it requires consciousness, conscious choices, which is called Da’at in Hebrew (Knowledge or Knowing)–דעת
